Quit Calling Me “Old Lady”! I’m Only 30!

Via Pinterest

So today I’m 30. I have been greeted with numerous texts, facebook wishes, and cards saying Happy Birthday “Old Lady”! Really… Is 30 really that old? Come on now, I do not feel very old. In fact I might venture to say that 30 is like the new 18!

What do you think? Was your thirties the best years of your life? Does it only get better from here? Come on give me hope. I did not think turning thirty would bother me at all but with all these “old lady” comments, I must admit that my new age is weighing on me a bit…

Oh and it does not help that Google even had to weigh in and wish me happy birthday this morning. Seriously, does everyone know how old I am!

You are not old! I will be 37 in 1 week! I don’t consider myself old; you are only as old as you feel. I don’t feel old; I’m in the best shape of my life! People think that I am 28, that I look 28, I love it! Enjoy your 30s, I have!

Happy Birthday! I am going to be 36 soon. Turning 30 wasn’t as bad as turning 35 for me. You are still a young person!

Awww, honey, wait ’til you hit 50! Just let it roll off. 30 isnt so bad, and honestly, I didnt mind 50 as much as I did 30. It’s just a fact of life. Remember, any day above ground is a good day!

I remember being in my 20s and thinking that by the time I was 30 I would have it all figured out. 30 was mature. My mother was going to recognize I was an adult! The heavens were going to open up and light would pour down upon me and all would be well! I decided to throw myself a birthday party!

It. Was. A. Disaster. (She says in her best Michael Kors inpersonation.) My uncle showed up so drunk he wished my best friend a happy birthday. I think he tried to eat some potpourri, too. My grandmother proudly gave me a candy dish that had belonged to my Great-Aunt Hazel because we shared a birthday. I couldn’t stand Hazel. She embodied the phrase “old biddie” and had been rather unkind to my father when he was a child. I could probably write a lengthy blog post on the entire debacle because it was that bad. Maybe I will on my next birthday.

Anyways, I said all that to say this: enjoy 30! It’s not old at all. I just turned 44 and I certainly don’t feel old. And I wouldn’t want to revisit my 20s…turning that corner was, in spite of the chaos of my actual birthday, a blessing.

Happy birthday. 30 wasn’t bad & the 30’s wasn’t bad (I’m 41). 40 was when everything went down hill. Heathwise.

Girl 30 is NOT old … and YEAH it is like the “new 18”! I have to say that when I turned 30 I was GREAT…it was the first time in my life where I knew where I was…where I was going… and was comfortable “in my own skin”….So yes… ENJOY! And it does get better…and better…. I am now 45 and love me and my life… it’s not PERFECT…but nothing is….but I really feel like I”m not racing and chasing to “keep up” with everyone else… Our priest said it best this weekend, being grandparents day, “the YOUNG may get there QUICKER…but the ELDERS know the WAY!” Have a blast!!!! Enjoy….and EAT A HECK OF A PIECE O’CAKE!
