I got to thinking of ways I can add a little more “design” to our fairly boring and basic house…without spending money!!
Here are some real-life, simple and cheap interior design tips to get you thinking:
- Re-purpose the furniture you already have – Move things around, add a new coat of paint or break out the sandpaper! I’m a firm believer of working with what you’ve got!
- Look for a good bargain – Skip the show rooms and stick to flea markets, second hand shops and furniture auctions. You can find some ridiculously, cheap treasures.
- Clean it! – Work out the food and drink stains. There is no need to get rid of it and buy a new one: 1) Remove the covering fabric and buy some new fabric which you can staple on. 2) Have it professionally cleaned, it’s much cheaper than buying a new sofa. 3) Cover it up with a lovely throw that matches the room’s decor. It’s just not that hard.
- Try out some new flooring! If you have carpets try pulling up a small section and you may be surprised at what you find! There may be wooden floor boards underneath that you may be able to simply sand and varnish them to get brand new looking wooden floors. What to stick to carpet? Why not rent a carpet cleaning machine or get a professional carpet cleaner in to give them new life. This will be much cheaper than all new carpets.
- Lastly, change a few little odds and ends – Rearrange your bobbles, change out family photos, line the shelves and add a lot to your home without breaking the bank.
Do you have any quick and simple design tips that won’t break the bank?
