Did you know that most of the fresh fruits and vegetables you place into your grocery cart during the winter months are coming from Florida? YES! And it’s not Mickey Mouse growing food when it’s snowing outside at your house! It’s more than 47,700 farmers in Florida, that’s who! They’re working all winter long to bring colorful, healthy foods to shoppers across the United States and around the globe! So yes, Florida during the cold winter means SO much more than warm weather, beaches and attractions!
From tomatoes, snap beans, cabbage and sweet corn to grapefruit, bell peppers, squash, tangerines and avocados, Florida farms are in peak production while you are brrrr….cold! Thanks to its famous sunshine and near perfect geographic position, Florida farmers provide you with a huge range of farm-fresh products as well as seafood. Look for the “Fresh From Florida” label at your grocery store including major retailers like Publix, Bi-Lo, Kroger and Spartan.
Who knew that Florida fruits and vegetables move from the field to the store in less than a business day, if not a matter of hours, in most cases??!! WOW! This distribution system ensures the highest quality and freshness of your food, but also it reduces losses and delivers some of the lowest price points in the world for the cost of fruits and vegetables. While farmers around the country are on hiatus, Florida is in peak production. So let’s do our part and EAT FRESH!
