What to Wear in Between Seasons

This post is brought to you by Cotton Traders

You can tell the weather’s changed – the leaves are falling, boots are treading the pavements instead of shoes and there’s even the odd scarf hanging round people’s necks.

The change of season is exciting – you can dig out your ‘old faithfuls’ from last year and hang up the dresses and skirts that have grown slightly weary and uninspiring after 3 long months of summer.

The switch from summer to autumn does however bring unpredictable weather and daily wardrobe dilemmas.

Glorious sunshine can greet you on a September morning, but an hour after you’ve left the house the rain can pour and you’re left with straggly hair, damp jackets and soaked ballet pumps.

Autumn is all about dressing wisely and carrying the bare essentials that will see you through a long day out. Ideally these items also need to fit comfortably into a bag or tote so you can take them out at a moment’s notice.

Here’s a few key items that will take you from day to evening or sunshine to rain without the need to change your car boot into an extension of your wardrobe.

Make sure you don’t leave home without…

 1.     Sunglasses

Just because you’ve hung up the summer dresses and sandals, it doesn’t mean the sunglasses need to be put away too. Sunglasses are fast-becoming a year-round accessory, and not just for celebrities.

Whether you’re driving in the morning or enjoying an autumnal walk in the evening, make sure you’ve still got your sunglasses in your handbag to shield your eyes against the last of the summer rays.

2.     Waterproofs

If you’re enjoying a lovely day out in the great outdoors or relaxing with some retail therapy, there’s nothing worse than being caught in a light shower and having to stop and take shelter.

winter jacket

A light waterproof jacket like these from Cotton Traders will fold compactly into your bag without weighing you down, and you won’t need to sit in damp clothes for the rest of your day out.

 3.     Hair clips

As you leave the house, your hair is perfectly coiffed and then a gust of wind can ruin your morning’s work. It’s a good idea to carry small hair grips or clamps in your bag or pocket so you can quickly tie your hair back if the day turns out to be blustery.

4.     *Season favorite* – colored trousers

The change of season is no excuse to replace all the colour and patterns with dark and dull clothing. Hopefully you’ve saved your coloured trousers from last year or you’re ready to invest in some coloured jeans because the trend is firmly staying put for another season – and it’s more vibrant and stronger than ever.

These aubergine and pecan trousers from Cotton Traders complement the warm colours of the season or why not mix it up with some aqua or green jeans to brighten up the day. Team them with white, black or neutral tops and jackets and you’re ready to go.
