Fresh, juicy strawberries are magically transformed into fairy wands with fruit leather leaves. Serve with whip cream dip and roll in sprinkles for a festive strawberry dessert. This dessert recipe is mostly healthy, interactive and fun way for guests as well.
Recipe for Strawberry Fairy Wands Dessert
Ingredients
- Fresh, whole strawberries
- Strawberry Fruit Leather (we used Stretch Island brand but when it’s strawberry season we make our own!)
- Whipped Cream (we used two containers of Cool Whip Extra Creamy)
- Colorful Sprinkles
- Wooden skewers
- one, 3 quart Ziploc bag, for piping out the whip cream display
Directions
Prepare the strawberries > After rinsing and drying the berries gently with a paper towel use your thumb and forefinger to carefully pinch off and remove the green leaves from each berry. Avoid slicing them off with a knife; the berries will look fresher, longer if kept whole.
Cut the fruit leather into leaf shapes > Using kitchen shears cut the fruit leather into a variety of leaf shapes. We started with roughly a 2″ x 2″ square of fruit leather and trimmed those into 3 separate shapes: 1) a single leaf, 2) a star-shaped leaf and 3) snow-flake edge leaf. Use your creativity here! We wanted to have a range of leaf shapes but if works just as well with one standard shape.
Construct the wands > First snip off the sharp tip at the end of each wooden skewer to keep little ones from biting into a sharp point. Then holding one skewer in your hand add one of your fruit leather leaves, then add one strawberry and place in your serving tray. Continue making your skewers until you have at least two per guest.
Prepare the Toppings > In a pretty bowl use a rubber scraper to fill up the bowl to about 2 inches from the top. Then fill a zip top plastic bag, (we used a large-sized freezer bag) with the other carton of whipped cream. Cut off one corner of the bag to create a one inch opening to pipe out the whipped cream. Pipe the whipped cream around and around the top of the bowl to create a pretty swirl. Place a single strawberry on top as a final accent. Place the sprinkles in a little bowl that’s large enough to roll a whipped cream-covered strawberry!

This simple dessert was inspired by the fairies at Disney’s Magic Kingdom theme park. Mickey recently invited us to host a preschool play date themed around the Magic Kingdom theme park in Orlando, FL and we served these strawberry fairy wands at a princess-inspired tea party!
