How to Save Money on Last Minute Flights

th

If you are a budget-minded traveler, you probably never wait till the last moment to book your flight. And you are right in doing so, as flights reserved less than at least a couple of weeks in advance tend to be very expensive. But savvy fliers know that sometimes those who wait get more. You don’t have to spend a fortune on a last-minute flight, in case unscheduled business matters arise or you just want to relax somewhere nice for a few days. Cheap last-minute travel is real, if you know a few tips and tricks.

The first and the most important tip, if you want to get that cheap last-minute ticket, is to be highly flexible with flight dates. Don’t be afraid of spontaneity, be ready to move your flight dates backward or forward and wait on standby at the airport for an available seat.

As with all cheap air travel, when looking for a last-minute business class deals  that won’t break your budget, avoid peak travel days and periods. So forget about flying on Fridays, Saturdays and during Christmas time.

Search for flights departing to your destination from various airports located in your area, and you might find out that driving an extra half hour or so to fly from a different airport can save you hundreds of dollars.

Don’t fly together with friends and family. It is a lot easier to nab one cheap ticket than to find a whole bunch of empty seats on a cheap last-minute flight. As sad as this tip sounds, it doesn’t mean you have to be alone once you arrive at your destination. Just allow a reasonable window for time of arrivals for the people you want to travel with.

Check websites of airline companies that frequently release last-minute deals on a regular basis and subscribe to arline newsletters. You will get a fair share of spam, but you will also be the first one to find out about last-minute flight specials. And when you do find a last-minute offer you like, don’t hesitate and book it straight away, because cheap air tickets sell like hot cakes.
