Spring is on its way but right now I’m feeling frumpy! What better way to prepare than changing up my beauty choices to feel fresh and new again. It’s time to inject some color into my skin and lighten things up for spring! I hope you’ll join me on this journey and check out some hot beauty trends I plan to follow:
SHADE UP
The winter months make me feel like wearing darker colors and while I love metallics and sparkles those days are the distant past. Spring brings a fresh look with both vivid and pastel shades. Choose one of these hot shades that best suits your complexion, style and skin tone:
- Red: the brighter, the better!
- Aquamarine
- Pastel pink
- Coral
GO GROOVY
The 60’s are also back in business. Think feline flicks, Twiggy-style doe eyes and vibrant flashes of color are bursting this spring. Find your natural summer glow with the “barely there” look. Swap a heavier powder foundation for a lighter liquid to give your skin a subtle luminescent sheen.
DAY TO NIGHT
Every once in a while I go from picking up the kids at school to an office party or a date night with Daddy and finding an outfit to work for both can be tricky. But if I have 5 minutes to myself, switching up my makeup can make an instant difference. I go heavier on the eyes or lips and add a little more bronzer or blush to enhance the cheekbones and create more definition. Add a dramatic red lip or a smoky eye for a classic Hollywood look. Lorac’s makeup line has some great day-to-night products.
The hot red lip can be a daunting trend to try. If you’re ready to take the plunge, here are some expert tips:
- Choose the right shade of red for your skin tone. If you are fair, an orangey shade will suit you best. For olive skin, go for a bright, pillar box red. A deeper red with blue tones will complement darker skin perfectly.
- Less is more. The beauty of the red lip is that it makes a statement on its own. Pair back foundation, blush, bronzer and shadows, and let your lips do all the talking.
DAPPER DEALS
To complete your spring transformation you may need a new article of clothing or two. I never spend much on new clothes and massively enjoy hunting through racks at bargain or consignment stores. There are some incredible bargains out there, and you can often copy looks for less. Log onto social media, watch video tutorials and peruse magazine articles. Look out for inspiration on Instagram and read product reviews before you buy. Another budget friendly solution is trading with girl friends. I feel brand new after doing a clothes swap with my besties!
Okay Mommies, whether you’re a natural girl or love to go glam, spring is coming and it’s the perfect time to try a new look! Think about it. Sneak out to your local consignment shop, check out the latest magazines and let’s have some fun!
