With all the sweets around during the holidays I wanted to share this quick, delicious and healthy treat that our kids love! If you’ve never tasted a roasted chestnut maybe this is the year to try. They truly make a delightful snack with a cup of cocoa. So buy a bag at your next grocery run and give it a go!
Ingredients:
Raw Chestnuts
Water
Melted Butter, optional
How to Make Oven Roasted Chestnuts:
-
Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.
-
Use a sharp knife to cut an “X” into the shell of each chestnut. It is important to pierce the shell, or the chestnuts can explode while roasting.
-
Place chestnuts in a shallow pan in a single layer.
-
Place a little water in the bottom of the pan.
-
For a buttery taste, drizzle melted butter over the tops of the chestnuts.
-
Roast chestnuts in the oven for 25 minutes.
-
Remove from oven and put into a towel (they are hot).
-
Squeeze the towel to crush the shells.
-
After the chestnuts are warm enough to touch, remove the nuts from the shells.
-
They are delicious eaten a bit warm.
-
Store any leftover nuts in the refrigerator.
We hope you enjoy roasted chestnuts as much as we do! This recipe is courtesy of HolidayInsights.com
