As a stay at home parent I’m always on the lookout for opportunities to bring in extra dough to the household so I recently made the decision to turn a passion of mine into a business that I can run from the house. I just picked up a real estate license and plan on working with a local broker to sell homes and properties and help others realize their dream of home ownership or investing in real estate.
It wasn’t as easy as I thought it might be but not so difficult you couldn’t get a salesperson license if you were interested. The state of California requires you to take 3 college level courses, Real Estate Principles, Real Estate Practice and a 3rd elective course (my elective was a Real Estate Finance course). I did my courses online and had a great time doing it. I actually looked forward to learning about real estate which I really did not know much of going in. Then you apply through the Department of Real Estate for your license and exam, take the test, PASS the test and bam, licensed real estate agent. While process took about 9 months with the courses and application process.
Aside from my passion for homes and properties, I like the flexibility a career in real estate offers. I can work the phones and email during the days while I’m home with the kiddos and hit the office as often as I can to suck up the culture and environment and meet other agents and learn the business.
I have never run my own business so there is a lot I need to learn. Fortunately I’ll get training with the broker I hang my license with. My first order of business will be developing my business plan and client base as well as stocking up on marketing materials so I can let the community know I’m out there to service their needs.
If you are ever looking for business signs, real estate signs, vinyl lettering for your business, EZ-Stick wall decals even personalized 2014 calendars you can give out as business gifts, go check out Signazon.com. I am especially interested in Signazon’s vinyl lettering. I found really great deals on my personalized real estate signs and they have a lot of other great products you can use for your business.
Wish me luck in my new endeavor. I will let you know how it goes.
