I learned this travel tip:
Eat sensibly. Vacations often involve eating in restaurants, where meals are fat-filled and portions are out of control. Be sure to choose lots of salads and veggies, and split entrees whenever possible. Pack some fruit or pick some up at a local grocery store.
If the local cuisine gets the better of you, just be sure to resume your healthy habits as soon as you get back home.

one helpful back to school tip:
Get the kids adapted to good sleep schedules at least two weeks before school starts. No more sleeping in or late nights, get them on track so those first important days go well.
I learned about keeping a cooler in your car to save trips back home with the groceries without finishing your other errands. This way you can do it all. I suggest a bag of ice in there too especially in the warmer months.

I not only keep a small cooler in my car — I keep a roll of paper towels. man, the messes I’ve seen!
Oooh I learned that I can old grease from french fries that’s been blotted up by paper towels to grease baking pans at a later time. I hate the whole spraying and flouring a pan when making a cake, so I am going to try this.

I learned to stick a post-it note on my car keys as a reminder system. You’re not likely to miss it there.

I learned that I should talk to my child’s daycare provider well in advance of our vacation plans to make appropriate arrangements.

I learned that you can cut down on soda consumption by using a 1:1 ratio of plain or flavored seltzer and fruit juice, thereby getting half the sugar in every serving cup.

Back to school tip: We dont have a lot of money and we are in the process of losing our home. We had to do a lot of back to school shopping at the dollar tree. This has been very helpful in saving us money!

A back to school tip is to cover books in clear contact paper to protect them from rips and tears!
I Visited the Scott Common Sense website and I learned that when you forget to get refrigerator pie crusts out to warm at room temperature, you can place them on a Scott® Towel and put them in the microwave about 15 seconds. They unroll without breaking apart.
I learned you can use Dental Floss for a neat way to slice a cake!

My children are each one grade apart, which means that I see the same school supply list over and over again. I get an email from the school when they first post the lists on their website, and I print them out. I then make a master list of the total number of each item I need. As items go on sale, very early around here, I am able to stock up on items for very low cost. For items such as rulers, pencils, etc that I know they are going to use and need to replace, I stock up at the 1 -5 cent sales to the limit I am allowed. Then if things get lost, broken, used, etc and need to be replaced, we are well stocked and don’t have to pay full retail price! At the end of the year, whatever is left from the stockpile is just a head start on the next year;)
I read this under Hobbies and Interests and will try it soon:
“When transplanting small vegetable plants into the garden, I cut up my SCOTT® paper towel and toilet paper end rolls into 2 to 3 inch pieces, slip them over the plants and give a little twist into the ground. This will help defeat the cutworm and other base destroying insects. ”

My back to school tip:
Make a couple of test runs to the new school (if your child has moved up to the next school) in the week before classes start. Time yourself in transit, then double it to account for the back to school traffic! Then your child will not run the risk of being late for the beginning of school!

I hadn’t thought about painting the inside panel of a cabinet door with chalkboard paint. I think as an alternative, you can hang one inside the cabinet on the door. Nifty, keeps it out of the way for a less cluttered look and less of an announcement for all the world to see you have a gyno appt or what have you.
The tip I learned ..
We never drink soda at home (unless someone brings it to our parties). We use a 1:1 ratio of plain or flavored seltzer and fruit juice – ex. 1/2 cup cranberry juice with cherry or raspberry flavored seltzer. We’ll also buy mango nectar, which is usually too sweet for our taste and cut it with an equal amount of water. We get half the sugar in every serving cup.
