The Summer We Read Gatsby Book Giveaway – Closed

Everyone has a summer they won’t ever forget. First loves, great adventures, fond memories…

For half-sisters Cassie and Peck, it was the summer of 2008, spent at their beloved aunt Lydia’s house in Southampton—the summer they first read The Great Gatsby. Set against the spectacular backdrop of a Hamptons summer, the book, The Summer We Read Gatsby, is filled with fabulous parties, eccentric characters, and insider society details.

Product Info:

THE SUMMER WE READ GATSBY by Danielle Ganek,  is a  comedy of manners about what happens when estranged family is brought together by the contents of a will. Half-sisters Cassie and Pecksland, Peck for short, convene in the Hamptons in July of 2008. They’ve been summoned to the ramshackle home of their deceased Aunt Lydia who has willed her home, the dilapidated Fool’s House to the girls in equal shares. Now they must put aside their differences, their temperaments, and their taste in men, in order to decide what to do with Fool’s House, a property neither of them can afford to keep despite its run-down condition. The two sisters spend the summer trying to understand their Aunt’s puzzling instructions to “seek a thing of utmost value” from within the house, while both becoming distracted by romantic entanglements with men from their pasts. It’s romantic, funny, camp and feel-good all at the same time.

Here are my “two cents”:

When I received this book in the mail, I was ready to “dig in” to the next beach read but I soon found out that this book is much more than a simple beach read. I enjoyed the main characters a lot. They were not overly complicated which I liked but they still held my attention. The relationship between the two sisters made me think about my own relationship with my own sister. I found myself connecting with them more that I expected.

I really loved the setting of this book as well. I have always been intrigued by the Hamptons and all that this place has to offer. I wish I could visit there. This book made me feel like I got a bit of an inside look at a part of the Hamptons I will never get to see.

Overall, I found myself enjoying this book until the very end, although it was a bit predictable. I was fine with that and I was quite satisfied with this read!

I will never forget the summer where I went on an island where there were no cars and the only mode of transportation was riding a bike. So peaceful!

I remember a very hot summer in N.C. I met a boy named Johnny Ray. He was so cute. On Sundays we went together to the movies. My nephew would go with us. You had to feed him buttered popcorn the whole time. He never watched the movie. He walked back and forth buying candy, popcorn, etc. Anyway, when Johnny Ray walked me home, we held hands. At my sister’s home, outside, we would share a kiss. I remember Johnny Ray’s kisses to this day. Those kisses were top drawer and special. I guess because he was my first love. Well, I did love Harvey in kindergarten. This is my memory.

The summer I will never forget is the first summer in college that I lived on my own. I had 5 housemates and I had lived in a dorm before but it was the first summer that I was living in a real house and paying my own rent and bills. It helps that it was a beautiful house.

The summer I’ll never forget – I was 10, he was 11 and my first “boyfriend” (LOL). I was visiting in Ohio and he bought me a Sock it To Me T shirt at the county fair. It was true love :)
