Many of us have been in this familiar situation, our kids come home, we ask about their day and all we hear is silence or maybe if we are lucky we get a “fine” or a “good”. Don’t our children realize how much we want to know about what they did all day? I know I wonder what fun things they learned and what they ate… I am sure you can relate.
Recently, Rice Krispies dared some mom bloggers including me, to think up some Rice Krispies recipes that may help start conversation after school, Rice Krispies thought that maybe with the help of a yummy snack we could get out kids chatting about their day.
Here is the recipe I came up with – (keep in mind that I burn everything):
A Whole ‘Nother Level of Rice Krispies Treat
- 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 1 package (10 oz., about 40) regular marshmallows
- - OR -
- 4 cups miniature marshmallows
- 6 cups Rice Krispies®
- 6 oz of Walnuts
- half a bag of dark chocolate chips (5-6 oz)
- any kind of dried fruit if desired
Directions:
1. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
2. Add KELLOGG’S RICE KRISPIES cereal and walnuts. Stir until well coated. (dried fruit can be added here as well – optional)
3. Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Cool. Drizzle melted dark chocolate chips on to top and let cool some more. Cut into 2-inch squares. Best if served the same day.MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS:
In microwave-safe bowl heat butter and marshmallows on HIGH for 3 minutes, stirring after 2 minutes. Stir until smooth. Follow steps 2 and 3 above. Microwave cooking times may vary.
Note
For best results, use fresh marshmallows.
1 jar (7 oz.) marshmallow crème can be substituted for marshmallows.
Diet, reduced calorie or tub margarine is not recommended.
Store no more than two days at room temperature in airtight container. To freeze, place in layers separated by wax paper in airtight container. Freeze for up to 6 weeks. Let stand at room temperature for 15 minutes before serving.

I LOVE making homemade rice krispy treats and when I was raising my brothers, all of their friends would come over and attack them lol
Your recipe looks SO good!!! It turned out great…I have never really experimented too much with trying to take them to the next level, but will have to now! lol
I’d probably drizzle some caramel on top..I love caramel and it would probably go well together!
Thanks for the chance to win!
