With back-to-school season already upon us, there are many practical things that parents and students should be buying as they head off to college, including pencils, pens and notebooks, among other things. You may also be selecting comforters and accessories for dorm rooms but beyond the bedding basics, there are a few other dorm room essentials that can’t be left behind. Honeywell air purifiers and fans are useful, cost-effective products that are prime accessories for any dorm room or off campus apartment.
Dorm rooms can often become hot and stuffy, and sharing a room between friends can make for very close quarters. With parents not around picking up after anyone, the probability that germs and allergens may become trapped inside the room is high. To ward off uninvited “guests” and keep themselves cool and comfortable, college bound students should consider adding the following products to their must-have essentials list:
- Fight germs, capture allergens and reduce unpleasant odors with a portable air purifier. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says the air inside our schools and homes can be up to 100 times more polluted than outdoor air. Effective air purifiers, such as Honeywell air purifiers, eliminate up to 99.97 percent of airborne pollutants that pass through their filters, trapping allergens such as dust, mold spores and pollen and helping everyone in the room to breathe a little easier. Portable air purifiers circulate the air in a room, usually several times per hour, helping to reduce stuffy, stale air and release cleaner, fresher air into the room. Honeywell air purifiers are easy to clean and quiet to operate. The new Honeywell True HEPA Compact Tower Air Purifier (HPA-050) is ideal for a smaller room, such as a dorm room, retails for $89.00.

· Stay comfortable and cool with a fan or air circulator. Whole room fans and air circulators let you feel cooling as far as 32 feet away – likely more than enough cooling power for a dorm room! Many of these fans and air circulators can tilt their heads up to 90 percent and create an air vortex for maximum air circulation throughout an entire room. And some of the newest fans and air circulators, like the innovative Honeywell QuietSet™ fans, allow you to experience maximum cooling comfort without the loud noise of a traditional fan to bother you or your roommate. In fact, at the lowest settings, the sound from a Honeywell QuietSet fan is virtually undetectable with measurement equipment. And if you want soothing sound options instead, like “whisper” and “white noise,” these fans have those settings as well. The Honeywell Quiet Set 5 Whole Room Tower Fan (HY-105) has a suggested retail price of $54.99.
Both of the products mentioned can be purchased at Best Buy and/or Target.
My Two Cents:
My family was lucky enough to try both of these products. I actually was told that I needed to have an air purifier in my house because my youngest has severe allergies and not long after I placed the Honeywell True HEPA Compact Tower Air Purifier in my house I noticed a marked improvement in my sons allergies. I also noticed a marked improved in my breathing, the air quality, the dust around the house ( or lack there of) and I actually feel like it was easier to sleep! When the light shined in through the windows I used to be able to see dust in the air but not anymore. I really see the importance of the air purifier in my household!
As for the Honeywell Quiet Set 5 Whole Room Tower Fan, I actually took that to my classroom to use. My small high school classroom needs to have air circulating at all times (think California heat, small room, mixed with sweating teenage boys!) and my high school never seems to have working air. this fan is a life saver! The 5 settings are great and it is not disrupting at all. In fact, I have not even noticed it being on and my classes are nice and cool.
Both of these products are worth the purchase. The fan is great to avoid turning on the air conditioning during those hot days and the air purifier really does a lot to keep your family comfortable. I really did not realize how much we needed these products until we actually had them.
