I’m sort of a hypochondriac. I can admit that. I think the slightest twinge in my stomach is a rare incurable disease from the 5th century and that I have one foot in the grave when I have a cough or runny nose. I’m not a good sick person. And I always think I’m sick.
Thank god for the magic of the Internet where 24 hours a day I have the information at my fingertips that I need to diagnose (and sometimes misdiagnose) any ailment I believe I might have at that moment or just learn about things that interest me. I like that I can jump online and get medical info in a flash. In this day and age of technology we should all become more educated about our health. There is no reason not to. The information is out there and very easy to find.
I had really bad heartburn about a week ago and I became curious about exactly heartburn was and what caused it and how to relieve it. I stumbled on a really funny video on You Tube about causes and cures of heartburn.
There is an entire series of videos sponsored by Blue Shield of California that feature 2 guys, Dr. Jim and his sidekick Bob. They are hysterical! They discuss topics that range from curing constipation, sunburn relief, insomnia, blisters, leg cramps, diarrhea, heartburn, athletes foot, planter warts, causes of hiccups. The list goes on.
I’m also lactose intolerant so I searched to see if they had a video that covered that and they did. It was interesting to learn a little more about it and laugh along the way. They offered information about what lactose intolerance is and ways to avoid it and treat it which was a big help.
I like that Blue Shield is sponsoring videos like this. It’s a great way to get information across to those who are seeking it. I also like that they are a non-profit company and offer easy access to alternative care, like chiropractors and acupuncture as well as offering access to great doctors along with a wide range of health plans even for those of us on a tight budget. And their talking heads commercials are pretty funny too.
If you are ever on the hunt for medical information or just want to laugh and find answers for most common ailments go find Dr Jim and Bob and search their videos. Or just go and LIKE the BlueShield of California Facebook page and check out their latest videos. I found them on You Tube.
