I feel this is a hugely important event that I wanted to highlight here on “Deal”icious Mom. Yes, Men’s Wearhouse was super generous to me recently but that has nothing to do with me posting this event. I truly find this National Suit Drive to be a great way to help our communities.

Appearance matters to a new employer. With this Suit Drive you can help men in crisis make a good impression during job interviews. The National Suit Drive is a program in its third year helping low income (or no income) men strive for self-sufficiency. By donating your gently used professional attire to your nearest Men’s Wearhouse store this month, you can help someone get a second chance. To learn more, go here.

The clothing items that they are looking to collect include:

  • Suits
  • Sport coats
  • Dress slacks
  • Dress shirts
  • Dress shoes
  • Sportswear (linen shirts, sweaters, casual pants, vests)
  • Outerwear (jackets, long coats, raincoats)
  • Ties and other accessories

So, start by going through your closet and pulling items in your wardrobe with minimal wear. Head to your nearest Men’s Wearhouse store to drop-off your items until September 30, 2010. The clothing donations collected in stores will be sent to local non-profit organizations.

Then since Men’s Wearhouse appreciates your generosity. As a thank-you for your donation, you’ll receive a 25% off discount coupon toward your next Men’s Wearhouse purchase. They will also provide you with a tax receipt from the receiving nonprofit organization.

Getting “Deal”icious Dad in to a Suit Isn’t So Hard After All!

Mens_Warehouse Anyone else out there have a husband that you have never seen in a suit? Ok, maybe the occasional wedding or funeral but even then he asks – “Do you think I have to wear a suit to this?”

Well, that is “Deal”icious Dad, I hardly ever see him “dressed up”. He has worn the same dressy shirt to almost all the nice events in the past 7 seven years of our marriage. So when we were invited to check out Men Wearhouse and have a shopping spree of sorts for “Deal”icious Dad, I was super excited. We drove separately, me in the car with the kids and him on his Harley… know do you get how hard it might be to get “Deal”icious Dad in a suit. Just picture a 6’4” Harley riding, high school football coaching, surfing, Grateful Deaf Head, guy walking in to Men’s Warehouse!

Let me begin by saying that the staff was super understanding of my horrific children. They the tore the store to shreds since it was quickly approaching bed time. Men’s Wearhouse was probably not the place that a good mom should have their kids at that time but needless to say the store manager, Javier, was more than gracious and understanding.

bigandtall Before yesterday, I had never been in a Men’s Wearhouse. My husband has bought 2 suits there, one for our wedding and one for a recent funeral (see what I mean!). I had no clue how easy it was to shop there and how many great services they offered their customers. First of all, they actually offer clothes (not just suits) but clothes like jeans and casual shirts in my husbands size. His size is hard to find because he is so tall so the fact that Men’s Wearhouse has a Big & Tall section is a huge plus!

Another huge plus is the fact that they have a tailor right on site so there is no need to buy the suit and take it some where else. Simply find the suit you want and the tailor comes out to fit you and then you pick it up in a few days! Simple!

So I am sure you want to know what “Deal”icious Dad thought. He was super impressed by the brands that Men’s Wearhouse carries. Brands like Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Kenneth Cole, and Calvin Klein. He had a hard time choosing which items he wanted ad that is why my kids got so crazy in the store! We were there forever trying to decide.

In the end, we walked out there with so much great stuff and a great experience. I would not hesitate to recommend Men’s Wearhouse (especially the one in Thousand Oaks, California) to anyone and everyone I know and remember it is not just for suits. It can be for jeans, shirts, ties, socks, cuff links and so much more!

So all in all, it was not so hard to get “Deal”icious Dad in to a suit after all! Thanks Men’s Wearhouse!

Shout Out to Sid the Science Kid! (Giveaway) – Closed

Can I just say that Sid the Science Kid has taught me a lot! Not just my kids but ME! I really love Sid the Science Kid. In school I was a bit of a English/Literature junkie and I still am. I mean come on, I am a high school English teacher so what do you expect. I have to love what I teach! So science is not my strong suit but Sid is really helping me out a lot! He makes it fun and so simple to understand!

Sid the Science Kid is an animated television series on PBS Kids, starring Sid, a funny and inquisitive 5-year old. Join Sid and his friends as they celebrate their excitement and curiosity about the world through discovery, activity and fun!

Anyway, my kids love Sid (a lot) the show had such great educational music and vibrant colors but really the content is so great! Recently I began to realize what my son had really been learning from Sid when he began to point out pulleys and levers when we went places. At first I had no idea where he learned what a pulley was but hen it hit me – Sid! Sid has also talk my 4 year old how important washing hands is and how his body works and moves! Seriously, I am impressed!

Each week, the programs focus on a single scientific concept based on Preschool Pathways to Science (PrePS©), a practical curriculum used in preschool classrooms that was created by cognitive researchers and preschool educators, incorporating lessons learned from developmental research as well as classroom experience.

Since my family is such a huge fan of Sid the Science Kid, I was super psyched when Playskool came out with Sid the Science Kid toys!

Learning about the world is even more fun when you’ve got a friend with you! This cute and cuddly Sid the Science kid figure even has a special surprise — press his tummy and he “talks” to you!
